Braces for Children

Many children are ambivalent about getting braces, balancing the desire for perfect teeth with concerns about pain. Fortunately, placement isn't painful, leading to a straight smile. The AAO recommends an orthodontic visit by age seven or earlier if irregularities are noted.

In most cases, we provide three options:

 1. Fixed braces

  • Fixed braces have brackets on each tooth connected by an archwire. Brackets can be metal, ceramic, or clear. Orthodontists adjust braces regularly, often adding elastic bands for specific tooth movement.

 2. Headgear

  • This appliance treats developmental irregularities. Custom-made headgear, attached to wire, aids tooth movement and must be worn 12-20 hours daily to achieve results.

 3. Retainers

  • TRetainers, used in the retention phase, prevent teeth from regressing to their original misalignment after braces. They maintain alignment and allow the jawbone to stabilize.
